drove a z8 w/hardtop at the bmw dealership near my house in houston about 2 years ago. fun car. I didn't they were that rare, just really expensive. i think it was like 118k or something ridiculous at the time. The sales guy and I kept talking about how the 507 was such a nicer car.

Did these cars have a tragic design flaw ?
Something about flexing chassis and the front strut towers?

Top Gear did a feature on them, it wasn't well received.

Reports that the front shock towers could deform from a severe pothole impact gained attention in early 2006. The very hard run-flat tires were determined as responsible for the issue. In response, in late 2006 BMW engineered and released a strut-tower brace kit to stabilize that area of the frame as part of the Performance Package.
