If anyone else is opening a small business, credit card processing deal

I remember a little while back when I was posting details about my business, and other threads, a few of you were opening your own business as well.

My past experiences with credit card processing has only been slightly better than being on the receiving end of a prison shower gang rape. With all the hidden fees, equipment, setup fees, gateway fees, fee fucking fee after fee, then more fees to actually take a card which are always high.

At first I was just going to say screw it and be cash only, it would kind of work out in my situation but would still probably be somewhat of an inconvenience to customers. I stumbled across this yesterday and just had my app approved today and I'm ready to accept credit cards!

It's run by intuit and they have a deal for new small businesses. I signed up for the higher traffic account to process more than $1k a month in cards, but it's still a pretty damn good deal. $13 a month, 1.7% a swipe, and 30 cents a swipe.

Another cool part is I can take cards on my ipod/iphone, right now they are shipping out the readers for free. You can also take cards on a computer as well, however if you want the 1.7% swipe rate (2.7 if you type it in) you will need a card reader, but those can be picked up for like $50.

FWIW taking cards on your computer is kind of tedious, if you are going to have a line of people waiting to ring out I wouldn't recommend it at all, it's not very efficient and there's a lot of clicking. But in my situation it will be just fine.

Just a heads up if anyone else is looking to do the same thing.

I use Paypal Payments Pro, You get the Merchant Account & gateway all in one. Fee's are competitive with the standard rates you see out there. They give you a free online virtual terminal etc.

Definitely my #1 alternative to 2checkout and the like.

2.7 for typing it in isn't that great... I have seen 2.5 mostly. Is that still at 30 cents per transaction ?

I own a ecommerce site and I have been looking for a decent processor. I have been through Chase Paymentech and RBS Worldpay. Each time I manage to go down by .3-.5% lol Next is Centralpayment. I will have to check yours out though.

Yeah I was wondering that as well, I couldn't find anything about them being more expensive, although I would assume I'm going to eat that cash back, fucking cash back....

the customer pays in the end. I hate those cards. the card company makes everyone think they are getting money back but merchants just jack pricing to cover it. its a shell game

I'm talking to a person on their chat thing now, "non-qualified" card (corporate, government, or rewards cards) is 3.7%

I asked the lady what happens if someone came in with like a 5% card (I don't know if there are any that fucking high but lets say they did) what would happen? She claims the most I would ever see is 3.7% max

I use Intruit as my terminal service. Its also great because it ties into my Quickbooks Pro 2010.

My rate for credit cards is 1.75% if I swipe the card 2.0 if I type the card information in and same with credit card purchases though the site. American Express is 2.25%

To migrate from the website to quickbooks, you have to use a gate. I use Godaddy and that is an additional $30 a month paid in year lumps.

But the service has been flawless. I see money after capturing with in 72 hours.

We used paypal when we started but it was a pain in the ass. As soon as we were ready for the real deal we bounced. And would never go back to paypal.

I think we process about 1 credit card payment a month so I'm just using the Squared device for my iPad and Droid.

Yeah, its the Godaddy Shopping Cart plus. I want to say it was right at $360 for the year. The Intruit Terminal Service also costs on top of the percentages and I have to do over $7500.00 in credit cards a month. Intruit will give you 3 months free with their service. Its worth the cost to be able to Migrate my charges over automatically every time I log into Quickbooks.

I also saw that American Express will also migrate with Quickbooks their monthly statements. Quickbooks seems to be getting on board with the common non accountant business person. But if you have not used it, there is a learning curve.

Your percentages are based off your credit report. The higher your score, the better your rates!

I got screwed by paypal and I refuse to use their services ever again.

They also do my web hosting. Everything is Ala cart. They are on the pricey side for their services. I choose them a few years ago thinking they were strong based on their size. But of late their services have sucked. I am on a shared hosting plan, and at times my site will go down due to traffic on one of their servers. Their tech support is top notched which is good for me. Their bridge is recommended by Intruit. Intruit tech support is not the greatest. Thank god I have not had to use them other than getting set up. This migration service just started with the 2010pro addition. So not everyone is trained.
