Honestly i think hip hop in it's current state is more alive than it has been since the late 80s-90s. Definitely hit a slump in the mid 00s but lyricism is back and here to stay. Raekwon featuring on Nas's new album...
The Chef talks to XXLMag.com about reuniting with Nas, and who else fans can expect to hear on his new LP...

yeah but see who your talking about..NOS and RAEKWON who have been around since the time of hip hop. i ment all these other people are killing it talking about "swag swag swag" "flaka flaka flaka" and lambo this and lambo that etc.Honestly i think hip hop in it's current state is more alive than it has been since the late 80s-90s. i liked hip hop when they talked about daily shit people can relate to, and of course they talked about making money and some cars but it wasn't the root of the lyrics....It was like music of the people.
and dont get me wrong i listen to new shit all day, but if we are talking about lyrics i dont see this new shit (with the exception of some) to be lyrical]Comment

lmao at judging lil b on lyrical skill. dude is straight comedy...
Some of my favorite up and coming LYRICAL rappers are J. Cole, Curren$y, Blu, Nipsey Hussle, etc
This new generation is breathing life into the seasoned cats. Wu-Tang back pumpin out classics with OB4CL2, Apollo Kids. Rae's supposed to drop another album this year and Liquid Swords 2 is supposed to drop this year also. Personally I have no complaints with hip-hops current state. Sure a little fuckery remains, but that shit is EASILY overlooked
