i have towing coverage through geico but the difference is that with geico i have to have it towed to the nearest shop... which for me makes it pointless.

Sounds like a rip off to me.

I pay less than $24 a year for towing coverage from State Farm, and that pays 5 tows per year, unlimited mileage.

I guess the downside if you are brokeass, baggypants is that you pay for the tow, then get reimbursed for the full amount. But it also means you can call whatever company you want vs waiting for an AAA approved tow company to get out to you.

Usually you can make a cash deal with the tow truck driver...
It's an extra $2/Km for AMA in Canada (same thing as AAA) but if you give the driver a $50 he will usually tow you anywhere within reason. I got a 65km tow for $50 doing that.

I've had AAA tow quite a few unregistered/uninsured vehicles in the past year. The tow guys are always real cool, most forget to even ask for the AAA card until they drop the car off. Neither tow was over 15 miles, though.

Cool, a month did seem long. But I will never join anyways. I can change a tire, I know that I need to refuel my car. And in the rare even I do breakdown I will just pay for it out of pocket, I will still make out better than paying those annual monthly, whatever fees they have.

    cool

I'm a service writer at a AAA-owned Car Care Center for AAA Carolinas. I don't think all clubs have Car Care Centers (my store is the 3rd in the country)

we have a ERS center at our store too, those guys are cool as hell

Two questions: What level membership do you have, if you are a AAA member and is the other car currently registered with plates on it?

AAA will not tow any car that is unregistered.
Basic Members: first 3 miles are free. ~$4 a mile after that
Plus: first 100 miles are free. Same mileage rates apply. (only 4 100 mile tows available per year)
Premier: Same as Plus but also 1 200 mile tow a year.
    State lines dont matter.

    mostly true

I don't know if different AAA clubs have differnet rules, but in AAA Carolina, the Basic only gets you 3 miles free, $3/mile after that
