About to head out to Treasure Island, maybe grizzly peak, and maybe even the embarcadero in sf right now in the Cross Country. Bringing the telephoto and wideangle.

I'v always read to take a picture of just the ice to use as your custom white balance.

Maybe also set the cam to shutter priority and try to get the correct exposure for the ice. Ice seems a little blown out to me.

Nice shots though. Caught some good action there.

                        thanks.
im pretty sure that because the ice isnt 18% grey it will totally underexpose if i use it for a reading. i guess i could set the AE higher if i did ap. or shut. priority but since the light was the same the whole time i just set it for Manual.
                        correct me if im wrong.

This. And it doesn't stop. I thought buying a nice telephoto (Sigma EX 70-200 f/2.8) would satisfy me, but all it did was show how inferior the kit lens is (still great for what it is though). I just want wide now, will probably pick up a 11-16 f/2.8 tokina in the new year once I get out into the oil field and start making some more serious coin. Once you go constant aperture it's hard to go back.

                            Keep it slideways!!
