    School me on porsche...

I'm looking to possibly pick up an older porsche. I've always kinda wanted one and well....why not now? Looking for an inexpensive project car that won't be a binding investment. I'm thinkng 928, 944 or 914. I know some of these have MAJOR issues - I just don't know what they are. Thoughts?

i think 944 is your best option out of those 3. it has it's issues but atleast the parts are common and the following is huge. thats just my 3 cents.

Rule of Porsche: Every Porsche costs $20k. Whether you buy it for $19k and put $1k into it, or buy it for $5k and put $15k into it.

GL on the inexpensive part!

        944 isn't a Porsche, unless it's a turbo, then it's almost there. 911 FTW. Watercooled FTW.

Nah, I think a 944 is pretty affordable, especially the 8v ones. It won't end up costing 20K unless you plan on driving it like 100K miles.

Nope - not at all. I actually have alot of projects going on right now - I've just always wanted a porsche. My first choice would be revisiting my first car - an alfa romeo gtv6 - but they're hard to find. I can score a driving 944 for less than 2k all day long.

                    I'm not interested in those.

There was a thread just like this a day ago, if you find that I believe there was some good info on the 944 and other older models.

944 is what I would look for. Clutches are a pain and expensive to replace. Look for faulty water pumps and AC units.

Ahh...got it. I can barely one project myself, let alone multiple.

Well, the good news is that both of my works in progress are daily driver worthy mechanically. That is, until I abandon my m10 for an m42.

                              True.

When are you going to do a Euro plate filler install DIY? I need to budget my time wisely. Do you at least have a parts list?
