So, I've put myself in a pickle.

I know a lot of the guys on here are well versed in law so I'm hoping on some advice.

I recently moved in with my girlfriend and her room mate.

The apartment is in her room mate's name, but my girlfriend is listed as a resident on the lease.

We've had quite a large falling out with the other girl mainly due to her immaturity (she's 19) and all around failure as a human being.

We've payed rent for the month, in cash, so no receipt was given. We do however have text messages where she admitted she received cash. We just recently were told our electric bill was significantly higher than expected, which makes no sense because we were out of town for 8 days of this month. She has a tendency to turn the heat up to 80 and leave the oven on, justifying the high bill. We don't mind paying the portion of the bill that we were involved in, obviously.

She keep threatening to kick us out with a 2 day notice because of failure to pay the electric bill because technically her name is the only one on the lease.

We are also worried about her messing with our things as she has demonstrated a lack of morality and respect for others things a few times before. We can't change any locks, or that would be the first on the list.

We are obviously looking for other places to stay, but it's a little difficult to move out on such short notice.


MY QUESTION IS:

What can we do to avoid being kicked out over something so childish, and what do I have/ should I try to get as a defense?

I'm too old for this shit, I don't even walk into the kitchen/ living room because I don't want to flip on this chick.

I don't really care how she ends up on the deal either btw.

Yeah, as in my experience. I live with my gf and and her sister, can't wait for sister to move out. Even when they love each other women can't live together. It was even worse before I moved in as it was gf+sister+gf's friend. Shit was fucked up every time I came over.

I did a little research and in SC she can give 5 days notice with a written warning.

It just burns me up that she blows up on me for shit her and my gf fight over.

I asked her her comcast login info so I can cancel the cable we never use and she laughed, told me I was stupid, threatened to call the cops and have me kicked out.

I figure that's fine by me, I'll pay my $40 for internet and let her pay the extra $60 for the cable that isn't even hooked up to anything. It's in her name anyway.

I tried being civil, I've broken up fights that she would have lost, talked to the cops a while back when she got caught drinking, etc.

I guess I'm done venting, I'm off tomorrow and Craigslist has a lot of promising ads!

(and how can I be upset anyway, my GC's are in my trunk and I have new control arms, tie rod ends and Hawk Ceramics on the way.)

Also make sure that your GF files the proper paper work with the landlord to have her name removed from the lease. Just moving out does not release her from the liability of paying rent.
