My boss has been super nice to me over the past year he has been put as my manager. Even when he was the same level as me we got along great. I'd consider him my friend. I have to tell him tomorrow morning I am leaving the company in mid March. He's gonna be super let down. Should I just say, "Hey tom. I got another job offer I am going to take and I will be leaving mid march."? I have never given a notice before where I can't walk into an office and hand someone a resignation letter.

Depends on your company policy.
When push comes to shove, business IS business.
Some company require two weeks notice, some will let you go the same minute you give them a notice.
So, if you are not worry of losing your current job immediately, you have nothing to lose.

Well, don't just plop it down like that. Have a conversation that just lays out what's going on with your career. Give them a chance to keep you. This is concession time. I would give him a call tell him that you have been offered a new job which you will be taking in how ever many weeks. And also say that you will follow it up with a resignation letter/email. Don't beat around the bush with this stuff just lay it out strait. Most people appreciate the honesty.sigpicComment

So I told my boss and he told me once he gives his boss my notice, they will probably counter offer with a 30% pay increase (vs the 20% at the new place) and regional territory. I hope he is right. I look forward to my new job but I hate change and I am so comfortable with the equipment I work on now.
