Baseball players here need a suggestion

What's a decent priced (under 100) first base mitt? I've tried a few on, I like the Mizuno best its what I have for an infield glove, but Ive never played with a 1st base mitt to know what to look for.

Under $100 is a pretty low budget for a glove, so I take it this is probably for recreational use, right? I've played first-base since I can remember and the only difference I can feel in gloves comes at those higher end prices. That being said, I've always liked the way Rawling's one-bagger gloves feel. I have a Mizuno outfielders glove as well as a smaller Mizuno for when I'm on the mound and like both of those too.

Here is a Rawlings 1B glove for under $100 that should do the job. It's part of the Gold Glove series from Rawlings which is good. I have the highest end model in the series and LOVE it
The Gold Glove Gamer Series is being taken to a new level with its new and improved pro soft leather, pro lace, moldable padding and authentic Rawlings pro patterns. As with the Gold Glove Award, this glove is for the player mastering defense. The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series features patterns just like the pros wear, designed for each position: solid webs for pitchers, shallow pockets for middle infielders, and open webs for outfielders and infielders. The deer tanned cowhide palm and leather finger back linings help for strength, comfort and durability. The patented laceless finger Holdster with index finger pad adds comfort and protection. The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer is perfect for anyone trying to improve their defensive play and who needs a tough durable glove that can take the hardships of playing defense. The moldable padding feature allows the player to shape the pocket based on the demands of his/her position. As with all Rawlings gloves, this Gold Glove has been made with the highest grade of quality and hand crafted leather. The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series gloves are targeted for the elite players that need a game-ready glove or a glove that may require minimal break in time; approximately 50% factory / 50% player break in work - slightly less break in time than the Heart of the Hide Series. Enjoy the Gold Glove Series from Rawlings. Free Shipping!

Yea just recreational. I like that glove. Is there a place I can try it on. You think sports authority would have it?

Isnt the highest end like 400 dollars?

Sports Authority (or any sporting good store) would most likely have that particular glove so yeah just go try the local store and see how it fits compared to other gloves you've tried on.

and yes the higher end gloves go around $400. I was able to get a good deal since the store I went to fucked up so I got the top of the line glove they had for just under 300.

So I ended up with the Rawlings. Dicks had them on sale ($50 off) which brought it down to internet pricing without paying shipping. I had to goto 3 different dicks in Chicago suburbs because they sold out like hot cakes. I have the lighter color leather.

For future people wondering about baseball gloves and mitts.... here ya go:

Mizuno will almost always have the softer and then usually more comfortable gloves. They pre-treat the leather to make it soft. This fact makes them last not quite as long as most other mitts, but they are usually cheaper. I like them the best, since youre not spending a ton of money, and theyre comfortable, and ready to go usually the day you get them.

Wilson A series gloves are great but pricey. the A2000 is simply the most popular glove out there. It lasts as long as you take care of it. The first base mitt is pretty solid, with a tough lip but break in like a dream if done correctly. These however are pricey.

Someone mentioned Rawlings, and I only like their Gold Glove series which can get pricey. Their other gloves are VERY tough to break in (mostly) and sometimes dont fit bigger hands.

Kangaroo leather is where its at!

supposed to be the best of the best. I think theyre loose and sloppy. But who am I to call 400 bucks loose and sloppy.

Other than that, the best advise i can give is to go out and buy the glove at a store. NEVER buy a glove online. When you go out and try on a glove, almost every glove is a bit different. One might have a piece of leather jabbing your hand inside, and another of the same exact glove might fit.... like a glove. Also at a store, gloves tend to break in differently depending on how long theyve been on the shelf. This can be good or bad. you might find one that is perfect for you. When buying online, there is no way to tell if its good for your hand.

edit: and when breaking in a glove, NEVER usse too much oil or bake it in an oven or whatever the kids are doing these days. If you want the thing to last, wear it for a while. Around the house, at the office, while making love to your money stealing wife (too soon?). Just use your hands. You can use a BIT of oil, but too much will soak into the glove and make it heavy.

For cleaning, use vasoline. It wont soak in at all. Just take some on a rag, wipe it on the glove in a thin thin layer. Then wipe it off with a clean dry rag. It takes all the dirt and crap off, without soaking in.

I used to fit gloves for a baseball specialty store....

Yes good tips. I thought I liked this Wilson glove once till I tried it on and turns out my pinky was on top of a knot. How uncomfortable would that have been.

The Rawlings I bought was a Gold glove series. $150 normally on sale for $100.

My third base glove is a Mizuno Evolution 12" and I love it. Ive had it for about 2 or 3 years now and it only was $80. Pretty expensive if you only play every other weekend or catch but I think it was worth it. My brother bought a cheap Rawlings around the same time and it still doesn't feel broken in (he also doesn't play often at all.)

I use rawlings spray on oil lightly and break my glove in by just using it.

Or as they say in Brazil, "Take the virginity out of my glove."
