I like the new Hyundai´s... I actually went to check out the new Elantra today and is a really nice car, BUT when I asked for the price, I got surprised... They start here(Costa Rica) at $23k, that is as expensive as a Toyota Yaris (around $22k here), or the Nissan Tiida ($22.500k fully loaded)... I wanted the GLS version with A/T and it was $26410, while the new VW Jetta MKVI costs $28k loaded and the Jetta is SIMPLY a better car with much more features in it just for $2k more... I think Hyundai is not as affordable as it used to be on the past... It simply can´t be close to the prices of a Japanese car, at least for me, Japanese cars are higher in terms of quality versus a Korean car...

not so much anymore ..i used to be a hyundai hater..but after testing them at my job (i work for a division of roush racing that does manufacturer prototype testing) i have driven everything from the eqqus to the accent and they have def stepped their game up..
the new sonata is tits..276 turbo 4 with 6 speed auto with paddle shifters..and still gets 35 mpg....
i drove one of these from minnesota back to florida at the end of january..sweet little car tons of room inside..6 speed manual...
they last with minimal upkeep we had a turbo sonata with 100k that only had oil changes and basic maintenance and was like new...and we beat on the cars pretty hard

No no, don´t misunderstand me... I am not a Hyundai hater, what I mean is that at least here in my country, The elantra is almost the same price of the Corolla ($2k less)... The resale on a Toyota is WAY better than a Hyundai... I also compare the price of this Elantra with the price of the Mitsubishi Lancer, almost the same...
I am actually looking for a car, but I consider that paying $26 k for an A/T Elantra GLS is too much money, while I can pay $28k for a Corolla... Or $27k for the Lancer...
I really like the Elantra, it was a nice car on the inside and outside, but I think is a bit overpriced...

So you think it nice and its 2k cheaper than its competitors but its over-priced, why because it has a korean badge. If it had a german badge you'd be on it like white on rice?

is the warranty the same for cars there like cars here? if so whats the toyota got for a warranty? the hyundai has 10 year 100k which def helps a bit..
i cant offer much since the prices are crazy there lol.. i will say the elantra is quite peppy especially if you go for the 6 speed manual

I say that cuz of the resale... Say I want to change the car in the next 3 years, at least here, no one will feel very pleased to pay 22k (for example) for an used Hyundai than paying 23k for an used Toyota... It will simply take me 2 months to get rid of the Hyundai while less than a month of getting rid of the Toyota/Mitsubishi
I am not a toyota lover, instead I hardly hate toyota, but the only thing I love about toyota, is the resale.
Nowadays the most nice and affordable cars I´ve seen are the Hyundai´s, and then the Honda´s but they are other history here ($$)

I went to the dealer and they offer 3 years 100k (not miles)... I think that the "business strategy" they are using is not the best one...
That is why I am saying that the car is offering me the same that toyota does... Example:
Hyundai Elantra with 3 year 100k warranty NO FREE MAINTENANCE
Toyota Yaris/Corolla 3 year 100k warranty with free maintenances up to 40k (not miles)
So imagine that every maintenance you gotta do every 5k is about $150 here in CR for a Hyundai the 20k and 40k maitenance is about $350 so at the end what you save on the car, you spend it on the maintenances while the Toyota dealer offers that for free
What sucks in my country, is that there is ONLY ONE Hyundai (new car) dealer for all the country, one for Nissan, one for Mitsubishi, one for Toyota, etc... So you don´t have a choice to "negotiate" prices or benefits, it is what it is... Is not like in US that you can jump from dealer to dealer to try to get the best deal...
