    Toyota, please grow some balls!

    http://www.roadandtrack.com/auto-sho...-86-ii-concept

The car won't even be released until next year and I was already prepared to put down a deposit until I read..........180hp? In a $24k "sports car?"

How about the WRX turbo motor at 265hp, but without AWD should still be able to match the price point.

I heard it will have an optional turbo 4 as well, but the NA low powered version will come first.

      This car looks GOOD.

^And I'm sure the turbo option will push it up close to $30k, at which point it's competing against the 412hp Mustang GT, 330hp+ 370Z, possible V8 Genesis, etc.

I can still possibly see buying the car on looks alone if it handles great, it's just achingly beautiful.

Wow, a Genesis Coupe with 210hp (will probably get the GDI 274hp by 2012) starts at $22K. I paid $23K for my R-Spec, which has all of the performance goodies too.

          Go figure Toyota's plan :p

The Genesis also outweighs the projected weight of the FT-86 by ~500lbs. They are saying the FT will be just under 2800lbs.

I sent Toyota a lengthy email yesterday saying that most enthusiasts would be willing to trade 100lbs for another 80-90hp of the WRX engine.

Yeah, I don't buy any of that "projected" stuff until I see it out. The GenCoupe is a tin can with all of the necessary safety features as it is. Unless the FT-86 is made out of cardboard and carbon fiber, I sincerely doubt it'll reach that goal. Being N/A it may shave 50lbs once you subtract intercooler/turbo/misc, but thats really about it.

It would be nice to see them make it happen though.

A car built to modern safety standards, is lightweight, and has good chassis stiffness excites me.

Very, very true. But most of the people that bitch/moan/complain about "lightweight" aren't the ones actually out buying new cars.

But I'm with you. A proper lightweight RWD Sports cars with a good chassis is very tempting.

It's jsut 180hp in 2800lbs isn't getting me all wet in my trousers to buy one, I mean, that's straightline performance basically on par with a stock E30 325i.

I told myself I'd never buy a new car.

There's a reason my feet are so big, it's so that I can fill my mouth up to keep from saying stupid shit like that.

(At least with only 180HP, if the accelerator sticks, no problem!):D

It's ugly. I hope they make a Subaru version so it will (hopefully) have looks to back up the platform.

It's not achingly beautiful, but it looks pretty slick. I love the proportions on the car.

It's proportions are one of the things that annoy me, the hood is too long for the shortness of the trunk and the front wheel is positioned too far back. Toyota needs to figure out how to design completly good looking cars, not just cars that look good from certain angles.

And it's super gaudy. Look at all the pointless vents and curves. I dont like it at all.

Now the concept of it on the other hand is awesome. The flat 4 is a great engine and a lightweight rwd coupe is the best setup you can get. Make it look better and I would love it.
