Could use some opinions on this one.

So I have always wanted to buy a motorcycle, and with gas about to get to $5/gal I figure now is a better time than ever to get one. So my choices are finance a brand new bike and be broke for a while, but build my non-existent credit and have an awesome low millage bike with a warranty. Or spend <$2k on a used bike (I am really into vintage CBs, KZs, GSs, etc.) and then not have monthly payments as well as cheaper insurance.

Brand new bike has brand new like car insurance especially if you're new to riding. How much would you finance? I always wanted to finance I bike. My limit is usually 4 grand I can save before I loose interest in what I want to save up for. BUT like you, we have winter and making payments on something you're not using sucks.

    I can't really make a vote. I want a 2011 zx10r but I own my zx7r.

This would be my first road bike but I have been dirt biking since I was 10, so I am pretty experienced on 2 wheels. So its not like I am going to decide I don't like riding half way through the summer.

Nah that's not what I mean. I mean I have a.d.d. so even if I really want something or need it I quickly loose focus and that's why I can't save. It was a personal comment.

The biggest deterrent is the not riding it from nov to april. Finance a new bike for 10 g's, that's 5 months at $250 dollars a month you're paying on something you're not using. Unless you're putting like 30% down.

I would get something cheap first. Without owning a street bike before, you can never be sure that you'll actually like it. I've had a bunch of friends transition from dirt to street only to regret buying a street bike..

I am also considering financing a bike, probably a used Duc 1098 this spring.

dont get a note, just find what you want and buy a used one with cash.

Hell I have been seeing 05 06 F650GS's with 15kish on them going for 4-5k in great condition and good maintenance on them

Or are you trying to keep it e30 like?

Combined with the above said motor... hehehe...

I'd buy used right now. And then put aside some money every month. Next year, sell the old bike (for probably the same you bought it for), and take the money you saved and pick up the exact new bike you're looking at now, but at a discount.

I picked up my Triumph as a 'last-years' model, saved about a grand but still got all the benefits of a new bike. :)

The Ducati is a) Italian so right off the bat it sucks ass. and b) its 160 bhp and 381 pounds with a dash you can't see in direct sunlight. Good job you ginny's.

The zx10r is a) Japanese so it'll last and take the abuse. and b) its 170 whp (rumors of 194 bhp) and 386 pounds.

Go ahead. Pay too much for your bike, I'll still take you.
