    Mac sound editing question

I have a mac g5 with garageband 2 on it ..... in a buddys garage we have several thousand voice recording cassettes that need archived and cleaned up digitally. How do i get from point a to point b? I'm kinda new to this.

Point b, being a digital file i can remove the silent portions from.

You can either get an A to D converter and plug it in to your tape player, get a tape player that has a digital out, or use a microphone and speaker to manually transfer the tapes. I'm assuming that since it's on tape, you aren't going to have the best sound quality to begin with.
