Well I bought a Subaru Impreza RS a few months ago to use as a daily driver. I've really loved these cars and they make awesome dailys. I spent 6 months looking for a clean relatively unmodified example and I eventually found one. The car I bought had 181,000 on the body but had around 3K on a brand new motor and was up to date on all of the service because it was owned by a former Subaru tech. Needless to say I was thrilled because it drove like a dream and needed nothing.
Well I took the car to philly with me for school so I can commute back and forth to Jersey on the weekends. MISTAKE. I go to Temple University which is in the heart of the hood. Last Wednesday when it was raining a stolen '99 grand prix barreled around a corner making a right hand drive turn onto the street where my car was parked. He lost control clipping a car on his left and then steered to the right colliding right into my car and the car in front of me. My car took the brunt of the damage but this asshole managed to hit 6 cars on the street. He promptly ditched the car and ran away before cops showed up. Classic hit and run. I'm glad no one got hurt but I truly wish that asshole wrapped himself around a tree or light post. He knocked into my car hard enough to move it onto the sidewalk and pop the tire off the rim on the rear passenger side.
Then the next shitty thing to happen that evening was the AAA tow truck driver who came to tow my car back to NJ. He told me that it would cost $32 because of tolls. I told him I live off of I-95 and there are no tolls. He said he had to take the quickest way which was the PA turn pike. I explained I didn't live anywhere near the PA or NJ turnpike for that matter. Needless to say he extorted money from me and I filed a complaint with AAA. Yet another north Philadelphian douchebag.
Fast forward to today and the insurance appraiser came to inspect my car. He was a really nice car guy but said the insurance company will most likely total my car. Now I have AAA full replacement value on the car which KBB says is around 5100... around what I payed for it. But I really like this car and it's still drivable. (I drove it since it got hit) I'm wondering if I source the parts it can be repaired. I didn't notice any issues with alignment or steering but I don't know what I'd be looking for to determine if the damage is structural.
Here's some pics...what should I do? The pics are real blurry it was raining at the time:
