I am in the need of a laptop for school as well as many other people... I have been looking at a few (hp zd8000, compaq x6000, toshiba p35 and qosmio f15). I want to be able to play games like counter strike source. Do you think that these machines will be sufficient? Also any opinion on the models that I have listed? Thanks for your help!

best advice i can give for laptops -go small. like 14". the "gaming" computeres they have out there nowadays have the 15.4" widescreen, which is nice, but it's a bitch to lug around. I got an hp dv1000 a few months ago and I love it. it's a 14" widescreen, which took a while to get used to from my 17" flatpanel desktop, but I got used to it no problem.
and the size is wayyy better. since it's so small I take it everywhere, so I take all my notes on my comp. which takes a lot less time, as I can type a lot faster than I can write. plus no hand cramps.
I have one of th ebigger ones before and returned it for the smaller, and I'm very glad I made that decisionOriginally posted by bluntcan you get me a deal on cases of their (fiji) bottled water? i wash my 02 in that shitComment

im with coldaccord. i got an X20 and its got its tradeoffs. The DVD and floppy drives are in seperate component that slaps on the bottom but without that attachted its uber thin and light. It went in my backpack the entire semester last year and it was great because the computers in the library are always taken up so I could study on it and then just throw the doc onto a jumpdrive and take it to the Business lab to print something off. With Wi-fi I could surf the forums if one of my lectures was getting horrbily boring.
Its thinner and lighter than ANY of the books I had last semester. When I get home I plug it into a docking station that connects it to my massive monitor and full size keyboard and mouse.Im now E30less.

Any sized laptop can come with 1GB+ of RAM. The 12" only comes with 64MB graphics card, but the 15/17" can come with 128MB cards. I play Halo on my 15" Powerbook, and it never stalls (1ghz, 768mb/ram, 128mb graphics card).Originally posted by 325is_e30I want something with 1gb ram and a dedicated graphics card. Can you get that in a smaller notebook than 17inch?Comment

If you're not going to take it anywhere (and believe me you won't want to 'lug' around the 17" powerbook), why not spend close to $1k less and get the 20" iMac?Originally posted by WerksminiI think im going to get a 17" powerbook. I don't intend on lugging it to class and stuff.Originally posted by Grueliusand i do not know what bugg brakes are.Comment

Because with a laptop you can still move it around your house at least...your bed, bathroom, kitchen. Desktop computers come after you have a laptop.Originally posted by kencopperwheatIf you're not going to take it anywhere (and believe me you won't want to 'lug' around the 17" powerbook), why not spend close to $1k less and get the 20" iMac?Originally posted by WerksminiI think im going to get a 17" powerbook.
