I figure it's like this.
Hondas are well built, sturdy people movers. (read: Not legitimate vehicles.) They have other markets too, like the S2000 and NSX and their vans, and the Pilot.
It's really about Civics for me. And it could have been any car.
1. Mom, back in the mid/late 1990s, buys a Civic, since they are cheap and cheerful.
2. After a few years, the kids are growing up and mom has a better job. Mom goes and buys a nicer car, maybe an Accord or a Camry.
3. Kids don't have a car and are always stealing the Civic anyways, so Mom gives them it.
4. What the kids REALLY wanted was a RACING CAR!!
5. Smart corporations realize that there are a ton of Civics now in the hands of kids who want to make them into racing cars, so they create an aftermarket parts market.
6. Stupid kids think their Civics are now track monsters with a bolt on exhaust and an intake, and drive them as such.
This could have happened with a Kia Rio for all we know, it's just the way the market works.Comment

You know...I kind of see it more as boys being insecure with their masculinity and having to prove their masculinity through the car they drive. Especially the boys with the huge jacked-up-the-ass pickup trucks.
As my current Sociology book says from the class I'm taking...
"Children's primary caregivers are virtually always female. Because a daughter is developing a gender identity similar to her principal caregiver's (her mother), she can readily model her mother's behavior. But a boy cannot model his mother's behavior and also develop a culturally consistent gender identity. He learns instead that he is "not female." He must suppress feelings of overwhelming love, attachment, and dependence on his mother leaving his gender identity less secure ( W. Pollack 1998 )."
"The Camry is an appliance, not a car. It attracts folks who have the same regard for driving that they have for washing dishes,
i.e. it's a necessary but somewhat unpleasant chore and they want something to make the task a little easier and insulate them from the process." - my friend, Número VeintiséisComment

Using the words 'waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffless' and 'fag' in a derogatory way offends me. Using these words in this way, is using them as a synonym for something that is bad.
The use of 'retarded' can also pretty hateful. Is calling something inferior 'retarded' acceptable? I don't think so. It conveys the same hateful connotation onto 'retarded' as the usage of 'gay' in the same context.
If a word is used out of its general context in place of one meaning 'inferior', then that word comes to mean 'inferior' too.

JBird, I don't disagreed, but this is the internet, chock full 'o just about every demographic you can find including bigots. You can ignore people who offend you, just like in real life. Works for the insecure enthusiasts in question, too.Originally posted by DozyproductionsYou know why you're drinking that Pabst? No its probably not because it was the first beer you grabbed. It's because you're a winner.Comment
