    Firefighters?

Any firefighters in here? Considering doing that for a career and was wondering if anybody had any opinions on it from actually being one.

Thats what I'm in school for now. My best friend is one and he absolutely loves it. public service jobs like firefighters and police officers arent for everyone. You have to know you want to do this.

Thats what Im going to school for. I say take an Emt class and see if its for you. For the most part out here in the Los Angeles Area the majority of calls are Emergency Medical related so my professors made sure that we saw the bloody gory stuff daily so it would separate those who can and cant take it. I've had the chance to be welcomed into a station and interview some of them and for the most part i think that anyone you ask who is a Firefighter will have a passion for it or else they wouldn't stay in that career.

In my interview the only real complaint i got was having to miss out on B-days and Holidays etc.

Wildland would be super sweet, but I think its more likely to be urban ha. Like I'm taking pre reqs at a community college for engineering right now, and I don't really like it. I want to do something that helps people, not corporations make money. I wanted to be a cop for a while, but they kind of are more towards the making money side of things ha. I don't get grossed out easily, I'm pretty stocky, and I'm really good at working in teams. The excitement/helping people aspect is pretty appealing.

Dope. I say you take an EMT course and that way you get to work as an EMT (if you dont already have a great job)..plus emt looks good on any resume. Rite now im taking my Fire Technology courses for an AS degree and then transferring to a 4 year.

^the medical stuff is ALOT of studying...and remember the Fire department is a paramilitary organization so if you have issue with authority or having to answer to someone then deff. not for it
