looking for an android app to teather my lap top

I remember when I procured my droid x there were several apps out there to teather my lap top to my droid and avoid VERIZON's extra data charges for teathering. I have unlimited data on the phone if that makes a difference.

Any experience or suggestions as to which one to get?

Not sure what to use on Verizon or Droid X, but there's PDAnet or Barnacle? I personally don't tether, yet. I do have an app on my Samsung Intercept (Sprint) that is Google branded for tethering. Not sure how well it works though.

    The Project-Home:

I pulled it out of the About screen.

Root your phone, then use wireless tether. It's free and turns your phone into a wireless hotspot. Very useful.

Oh and it's pretty fun changing your SSID to funny messages in public. Wait for the lolz when someone scans for wifi at your local coffee shop.

I thought the droid x would brick up when you root it?

I have a friend who is a it guy and a phone geek, maybe i'll talk to him about doing it.

Yeah I think you have too root to get the x to wifi hot spot. I think the the bricking issues have been fixed too.

My Dx is rooted and used wireless tether for a while, but now I'm mostly just phone-status. Check the market for rooting tools if you need to, some tethering programs are claiming to work without root.

Root is the way to go, wireless tether is an awesome app. Running it on my htc hero!
