I don't bag when I mow. Should I add nitrogen or just let the clipping add nitrogen as they break down?

more chemicals dude. adding all the shit that ruins the planet is the only way to have a nice lawn. Although all the good stuff has been removed for the most part.you dont want too much thatch build up either. Bag it 2 out of 3 times maybe

Forget the chemicals for now, throw some mulch on it.

I was a greens-keeper up on the Cape for a few years. My superintendent always said to those who asked: follow the Scott's program.

Without the stuff available to professionals - chemicals, custom mixed ferts, and machinery - use Scott's.

Is the grass showing any symptoms?

In my exprience in...gardening...too much of a good thing, is in fact, not a good thing. I would be careful with fertilizers, while nitrogen is an essential part to plant health, adding too much will harm your lawn by causing weak growth. I would reccomend some sort of slow release, low nitrogen fertilizer.

I want nice grass... I need about 6 heaping piles of top soil first.

Anyone have a clue if sod is worth the price point?
                Need a part? PM me.

If you do both, yes. Sod cut old stuff away, thick cuts. Amend soil. Resod with appropriate species.

Water the heck out of it til it is well rooted.

Well the person who kept up on the snow put down WAY too much ice melter so I have nothing growing along the edges.

In the middle of the lawn its VERY green and hardy. I did the fertilizer in the wrong order. I should've done crab grass preventer THEN weed and feed. But I put down weed and feed, which I need to again in late may.

I don't need lime. My ph is almost 7. I've killed off a lot of dandelions. My test grass spot is growing good. I can soon iron rake up the rest of the dead grass spots and put down more seed. I put down dylox yesterday to smoke the grubs out.

My grandfather has a degree from maybe 2000 in Horticulture so he's been helping me out a lot.

My local agway can help me custom mix fertillizer.
