Dont hate the Machine , hate the asshat that is riding ! It really doesnt end with harleys ,with sportbike guys removing their mufflers around here. As far as loud being safer, there are much more effective ways to ride safely and i choose those. 95% of the people that can hear your exhaust are not in the position to compromise your safety, they are just annoyed. Make that 98%.

Loud pipes are just loud pipes. Sure everything has it's place, even loud pipes. Here's my beef: the only time the bikes are really loud is when they are accelerating very hard, that typically means they are doing something unsafe for others on the road. It's startling and hard to react when something that loud goes that fast 2 feet from your window. I'm going to swerve next time it happens, maybe not be choice.

I once got pulled over for a loud exhaust. about 7 minutes in a harley pulls out with some of the loudest pipes I have ever heard. I then asked the cop "That thing is probably 20 times louder than my car, and you didn't even look at it?!"
His reply
"Why would I? Harleys are supposed to be loud. They come like that from the factory"

Boy did he get an earful after that. And proceeded to explain to him that the septic snake looking thing in his little briefcase in the trunk was in fact a tool used to make sure that motorcycle owners didn't remove the baffles on them. And then proceeded to ask him if he knew all of his equipment. And then I didn't get a ticket. Miraculously.

I fucking hate harley owners that make them loud as shit. Own the harley. Don't own my fucking ears in the process. I'm all about a good sounding throaty vehicle or bike. But god fucking damn can those bitches be loud.

If all motor vehicles on the road are as super loud as the others, then there's no point having a loud obnoxious exhaust.

Make it as if every car is running open header exhaust, those obnoxious Harley's riders would definitely think of doing something else (more ridiculous?) to justify them self of being on a public road? Something like... trying to ride two bikes at once :)

I dont get how loud pipes save lives if the pipe is directed away from oncoming or side approaching traffic. Its a bullshit statement. Smart riding and bright colors/bike save lives. I have a green ninja, with a green kawi jacket. I stick out like a sore thumb and rarely have close encounters.

I also have a Yoshi true track exhaust brand new from 97. If anything people are noticing my bike for the sweet music its producing.

Sorry but it is not the machine that is to blame. We have a local bar that has more amazing HD than you can shake a stick at. They are polite with their bikes. One 400lb guy owns a Boss Hog! That bike is a monster
