Aren't you in PA? Ha, I have been enjoying the rain. I have been taking my dirtbike out every day to the quarry to play with mud.
On topic:
I have an alienware and run their liquid cooling. i7 930 quad core 2.8GHz, not overclocked, air gets sucked in through the front and exits the back. Also a "honey comb" design on top to dissipate heat, I never go over 32°C, and that's with HEAVY gaming (hours) like WoW, just normally surfing the web and playing Counter-Strike, I don't go over 27-28°C.
Another thing that helps is I have the nVidia GTX460 which also has a fan, cools the video card off very well.
Upgraded to air to water cpu cooling

Maybe. But frankly, if I could buy a new car that drove like an E30, I would do it tomorrow. There aren't any subjective virtues in an older PC delivers that I can think of. :)
...and anyway, if you're going to spend money on performance, start with an SSD. Nothing else will give you that kind of performance bump.Leave a comment:

^some people enjoy doing it as a hobby. That'd be like asking why anyone bothers modifying their e30's when you could just get a new car...Leave a comment:

Why dies anyone bother overclocking, these days? I mean, way back when, I had a nifty dual celeron machine that I got going to 550mhz. That was back when you could really derive some meaningful benefits, though.
Nowadays, why bother? It's a lot of work and the ancillaries cost as much if not more than a faster processor. ...and then you have to use some giantized case.Leave a comment:

It can actually be done pretty cheap. We did it in college for the hell of it. We used a fish tank and through the little air bubble machines in too for effect. If you want the real deal with a pump and radiator you are talking a bit more. All you have to do is move the hard drive outside the case. Mineral oil doesn't evaporate.
Edit: My main issue with oil cooled stuff, it makes it heavy as FUCK.Last edited by 5spoke; 05-17-2011, 05:24 PM.Leave a comment:

mineral oil cooling is nothing more than a science experiment in my opinion. Unless you're running an external radiator to cool the mineral oil the temps will steadily increase and yield worse performance than a traditional custom water cooled loop.
If you do choose to run a radiator with the mineral oil then there's no benefit over a WC loop (noise, maintenance).
Either go h2o, or go Air.Last edited by s0urce; 05-17-2011, 05:20 PM.Leave a comment:
