    Android Geek, please speak up.

Hi guys, I need to use a USB touch screen as the HID on my stock ROM EVO 4G.

I am going to use a 10.4 LED touch screen on the HDMI port, but I need to get the touch screen to work with the phone.

There are several ways to get a BT mouse to work, but I have not found one yet to work on the stock ROM.

    Ideas?

I don't think a Usb device can be used as an input for the phone.

This. I have yet to see an Android phone that will host anything via USB. The only Android device I have seen do that is the Acer tablet.

No USB input that I can tell. The closest you can get would be using BT, If you ditch the stock rom you can do quite a bit with BT keyboards and mouse.

OK, so if that is true (I really hope not, but it looks bad so far) does anyone have an idea how to convert a USB 5 wire resistive touch screen to emulate a BT mouse?

There are plenty of threads talking about the big issue in CM7 being the lack of a cursor, but I don't need a cursor, just touch functionality...and no one has tried what I want.

Think how badass a 10" touchscreen phone in the middle of the dash would be! HUGE navigation, full, proper (no BT garbage at all!) handsfree calling, if you use WINAMP you can play OGG files, lossless .WMA, all kinds of video (yes, while driving, but I am not THAT dumb) email, proper message notifications, all of the good crap I already pay for.

Before you ask, yes, all of this is predicated on my building an entire new dash, so no worries on this being a cool install...just gonna take like 5 years to get it done.

          Keep the talk going, guys.

The only thing that I could think of is the brand new asus padphone: http://event.asus.com/mobile/padfone/

Basically what it is a screen that only allows asus's smart phone to plug in to and become a tablet exactly what you are looking for, minus that you have to plug the phone into the back of the screen.

well, I could motorize the thing to flip over, would not be that tough.

That Padphone is exactly what I want...but it isn't even on the market.

Plus, my idea would have an HDMI audio stripper that will allow the higher audio formats to be taken through a much higher grade of output.

But, thanks Willy, that is an interesting device, and proves my idea is the wave of the future. I think within 5 years it will be considered normal that everyone carries their entire computer needs in their pocket.

In the next 5 years I don't think you'll have a problem finding the right equipment for what you are looking for.

                I have a Asus Eee pad: http://usa.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_...sformer_TF101/

It is a really nice touch pad device, but it also has an HDMI output. I've been trying to discover a way to mount it in my car and use it to select my music, and allow the passenger to play games/select music/watch movies with a swivel mounted to the dashboard without altering the dashboard what so ever.

That would not be too tough, you could make a bracket that fits like a PanaVise, kind of floating above the center console, but just above the passengers knees.

                  When you coming out here?

Anyway, I am gonna get hold of Lokifish and see what he has to say. He has said he wants basically the same thing:

So I am gonna see if I can get him onboard this project. That would give my little idea and product (way more importantly as a fledgling company) international visibility in the EVO forums.

I bet if I made something as easy to install as a normal car stereo with a "tablet mount" in it I could sell a few hundred in a years time.

I do know more than a few people who are fluent in Chinese and technology, you know.

The problem with trying to emulate the BT Mouse is in the communication differences. A touchscreen relies on calibrated XY Coordinates, whereas the mouse is just XY scrolling device...

To emulate the BT mouse with a touchscreen will be heavy driver modification.

But, I would like to say I've pretty much had a similar idea. Considered using the android phone with the HDMI hookup, and a Rii bluetooth keyboard. but this would be MUCH too cumbersome to use while driving.

Also, considered using a tablet PC, and having it tether to the phone.

The ideal solution would just be a bluetooth touchscreen clone of the phones screen. but fuck if bluetooth can support that. You'd need a WiFi connection for that.

Install wireless routers in cars and use VNC to access phone screen through a tablet PC?

^Requires rooting. But TOTALLY could be done, relatively easily too.

Its not exactly what you were looking for with a HUD display. However it runs android 2.2 and can be used like a HU for your car. This would give google maps and all sorts of extra goodies.

you may find this interesting ;)

Once the Google ADK was announced, the team over at [ElectFreaks] jumped right in and started experimenting to see what they could do with the new Arduino/Android interface. While the ADK was great…

[follower] prototyped a 2-line external display for his Nexus One using an Arduino with a USB Host Shield, and the Android Open Accessory Protocol. There are two basic software pieces at work: an A…

I believe it may be possible. But someone will have to develop it.
