I kinda want to get an old late 70's early 80's motorcycle to cruise around on. Anyone have any advice or anything? I have been looking around on ebay for stuff and it seems you can get something for sub 1k, that runs fine. Im not looking for anything that looks cool or good in the least. I just want something that I can hop on and cruise around on. Nothing really fast, I dont want to die. I would kill my self on a crotch rocket. Let me know, even if its just brand preference from the period.
Anyone Ride?

take the msf course. in california, if you're younger than 21 you have to by law (and it's only $75). what do you want, something cruizer-ish? pick up a rebel 250, or if you're looking for something sportier, i'd recommend an ex-250 ninja (excellent starter bike, imo), or a GS-500E, SV-650, something of that like.
one thing: riding takes MUCH more discipline than driving.sigpic -

I highlighted my favorite bike out of those choices ;) Great for starter, and more powerful than the rest.Originally posted by e30sdtake the msf course. in california, if you're younger than 21 you have to by law (and it's only $75). what do you want, something cruizer-ish? pick up a rebel 250, or if you're looking for something sportier, i'd recommend an ex-250 ninja (excellent starter bike, imo), or a GS-500E, SV-650, something of that like.

Watch out for: water, paint, bugs, glare, people, cars, rocks, gravel, sand, oil spots, sneezing, your speedometer... well basically everything.
All it takes is a 1/2 second slip to go down.
EDIT: Also, YOU WILL GO DOWN. Wear a helmet no matter what, gear is good too. Some people complain about hot clothes, but sweat wipes off, road rash doesn't.

its a blast, i love it, but it's dangerous. I think I'm only gonna ride track from now on. for your first bike, buy old and used, because it will go down. ninja 500 or something along those lines would be straight, as well as a sv650. i had a 94 ninja 600 for my first bike and it did me well
never sacrafice your body for the bike. It will go down, be concerned for your safety not your vehicle. Look out for everyone. There are a few potential accidents where I got cut off where it was honestly so close I don't think I could have made it without the manueverability of a sportbike.

good one. bleh
back on topic: Werkmini: how big are you, height, weight wise? If you're not huge, I'd look into a Ninja 250. Reasonably quick compared to cars, cheap to buy, cheap to insure, cheap on gas, looks cooler than most other bikes in the price range. Next step up is a Ninja 500.
As you said you just want to have fun. The more you get into it, the easier it is to talk yourself into the newest gee-whiz replica racer, which isnt a very good idea for a new, inexperienced rider. If you make up your mind now, you can avoid that rat race.BEERTECH

I got my 94 ninja for 950, had a yoshi full exhaust and a few other things. All I did was chain, sprockets, and tires.Originally posted by bluntcan you get me a deal on cases of their (fiji) bottled water? i wash my 02 in that shitComment

I want something old.Originally posted by Robget a moped then, just as useful, dont need a special license, etc.
I'd venture to say most $800 bikes are either old, or busted, and would need either work or learning or both...
