Wife and I hit Playa del Carmen a few years back as part of two week diving trip ( half in Cozumel ). The beaches and water are beautiful there.

Don't let the pic fool ya, the cenotes are HUGE with tunnels and big rooms all underwater and a wierd thing called a halocline where the fresh water sits on top of the sea water, makes a refraction layer for you lights ( like an invisible mirror at large angles ) and when you swim through it and stir it up you can't see shit even though the water is crystal clear.
