    Bananas

Which side do you peel from? Stem or non-stem?

Answer first before reading further! And also, refer to ends as stem or non-stem, since there's going to be confusion if you say top/bottom.

Let's hear your thoughts on this!

    Background

This debate got brought up during lunch at work. Decided to do some more investigating on my own. Here's what's known so far but I highly encourage any other pro's/con's.

    Debate

Now, assuming you have a banana that's just ripe enough to eat (ie. stem area is slightly green but rest of banana is yellow)

    Open from Stem:

    (+) Easy and fairly repeatable
    (+) Not messy
(+) Almost always can avoid eating that retarded hard/bruised thing at the non-stem end
(+) By not peeling all the way down you still have like 1" to hold the banana near the end and can use that to 'pop' it out
(+) Banana never has tendency to fall out
(+) Humans are higher order than monkeys so just because monkeys open the other way doesn't make it necessarily the right way
(+) Bananas are typically displaced with stems up, or at the very least the steps protect the banana content at that end from being damaged from handling, leading to less bruising on the stem end

(-) Sometimes the stem will not open smoothly and instead the banana will split apart at the top, which can be a hassle
(-) Stringy pieces can detach from peel and stick to banana or fall on the ground
(-) It's not as fun (and apparently accurate) to sling a banana at someone or something (ie. trash) from the non-stem end after eating

    Open from Non-Stem:

    (+) Easy and very repeatable
(+) Use stem as a handle to hold banana
(+) No stringy pieces ever! They stick to the peel
(+) This method is the right one since monkeys do it this way
(+) Fun to sling it at someone / something by holding it at the stem

(-) Have to piece the end first with something (ie. fingers, nails, teeth)
    (-) Generally a messier affair
(-) Banana has potential to fall out while holding by stem as handle
(-) Have to deal with that weird bruised / pointy piece when you first open the banana, unless you initially offset your pierce lower down from the end, in which case things could be a bit messier

Side note: Yes, this is my first post nbd. Haven't had a lot to contribute but I've been learning lots about e30's after picking up my first one earlier this year ('91 318is).

Trust me. I was as surprised as you guys are. They are out there! I couldn't believe why you would want to open from non-stem.

This. Just eat the whole thing, there's more potassium in the skin anyways.
