Unless you plan on being a mechanic , a tattoo artist or peircer, or a successful musician, you are limitimg your choices for ways to make decent $. this, or stay single and get other chicks dude... my last girl i dropped as soon as i turned 18 and graduated high school (im 21 now) and never looked back. if i would have had a gf i would have missed out on A LOT. dude just stay single because you'll want to be when you turn 21...thats my opinion and i know the older guys on here will have wiser words but trust me if you are any good at talking to girl's then its better to have new waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles on different days then to say "same shit, different day"

then you are better off than most kids your age.

but remember, and this is comming from someone who has been in the automotive field for a long time, you wont want to do it forever. try not to do anything that can't be covered up for another job (ie neck, knuckle, hand tattoos,) things like that.

being an auto mechanic is really hard on your body and it takes a toll on you. you will probably want to make some sort of a career change at some point, leave your options open.

btw, how does being a "hipster" go over with the other mechanics at the shop? we are a brutal bunch and i don't see it being easy.

what certs do you have?

what are you working on? CAT, KENTWORTH, DETROIT, ETC? at 18 you can't have that much experience

i started working on cars when i was 15 and got into diesel around 17. the whole "hipster" thing isnt a bad thing anymore because i ended up fighting my brother in law who i have worked with and everyone knows hes a giant...6 foot 5 and almost three hundred pounds. almost got my ass handed to me but ended up droping him on a jack and cracked up his back...so no one really fucked with me after that.
