Transfering files from PC to Macbook

Just bought a Macbook pro and I want to transfer all my music from my old windows xp desktop to it. I have an external hard drive, with backup from my 'my music' on the C: Drive, however that is from a few months ago, and in order to update the music on my External HD Backup, I have to REPLACE all of the files on the external HD with the new ones, which will take ~6 hours. Is there a way to migrate all my music in the PC's iTunes folder straight to the Macbook?

not really. mac has target disc mode... if only windows ever thought that up.. get a sata dock maybe from bestbuy, take your hdd drive out, use said dock, navigate users folder too said music, transfer, return mentioned dock.

Rewrite all your files overnight when time isn't an issue or just have them both on the same network and do a lan file transfer.

However, I am running An Acomdata External Hard drive, FAT32...
My mac is OSX-Lion...

fat 32 is able to be used with both mac and pc back and forth. a true "shareable" volume.

even if you were ntfs vs. the osx journaled format, lion will still read the drive and data. lion would just not be able to write too the ntfs volume.

lion is a bs OS... i hate inverted scroll and launch pad. enjoy!

Damn so I copied all the files over to my 320 GB External HD, but it seems that it wont work on a Mac osx 10 because its over 120 GB in size.. can anyone confirm this?

Nah, that's not right. I have a 1TB Fat32 EHDD, used it to copy everything from my crappy windows notebook over to my iMac, running 10.5.8.

Reads fine.

Just download NTFS-3G for mac and be done with it. The driver allows you to read and write to any NTFS formatted HDD. I'm running it on my macbook and have 9 different drives ranging from 500GB to 2TB (Mostly 2TB). It works fine and you don't have to fuck with any of your files or reformat the hdd.

Who makes your HDD? It may be better for you to reformat your external to NTFS (PC) which is a better file management (e.g. cluster size) and less prone to failure. While you reformat, install the NTFS-3G driver that I posted above. Once done formatting, move all your files from PC on to HDD. Plug in HDD to macbook, point itunes to correct folder, enjoy music.

Advantage with NTFS-3G driver: you can now move your HDD between your mac and other pc's without the high-failure prone FAT32 format. You also have significantly less file size limitations with NTFS vs the 4G limit on FAT32.

Thanks for all the input guys.
I ran over to my friend's house, grabbed his smaller external HD (a WD Passport), copied all the files again, and now my entire iTunes Library (and more) is on my macbook.
Now, I'm trying to see how I can retain my playlists that I had created on the PC.
