    Speaking of racism....

Cliff Notes: NAACP is threatening to sue the state of Georgia due to a new state law requiring a photo ID for voting. NAACP claims this constitutes a fee for voting and many blacks can't afford to purchase IDs ($15 I think...)

It isn't because blacks can't afford picture IDs. It's because most black families in GA make under $8k per year, which doesn't really allow for the purcahse of a car (and makes paying even $15 for an ID quite a bit when you're trying to feed four people on $5.15 per hour). And if you don't have a car, why would you have a driver's license (the most common form of picture ID)? And doesn't it instate a fee for voting if you have no form of state licensed picture ID? It's institutional racism, plain and simple (same shit GA, MS, and AL have been doing since Reconstruction).

You dont have to have a DL to have a govt issued ID. Here in Kansas they issue ID cards that look similar to DLs that have all your pertinent information on them and low-income individuals can get them free of charge. All you need is a birth certificate. Since I am a student and make only 18k a year I can get one of those IDs free but still have to pay $23 if I want a DL.

I see it more as ensuring that people voting belong there, i.e. no false names. If someone loses and election and this isnt instituted they could cry voter fraud.

              Sorry, but that's BS.

We're supposed to let people vote without ID? You can't tell me that $15 every 3 years (or maybe longer, I don't know how long the ID is good for in GA) is enough to prevent people from voting. Even at $5.15/hour, that investment is worth less than an hour of work a year. The other argument about getting to a DMV is also bogus. If the impoverished can get to a polling place, they should also be able to make it to a place to get identification (again, this would only be once in a 3+ year time period). I don't really see the problem, only a load of crap from the extreme left.

i wonder if Ga has a positive ID law for welfare programs.

FWIW- here in charlotte during the 04 election, local NAACP-clones screamed bloody murder when the Elections Board wouldn't allow early voting on Sunday. Sunday. They claimed the board racist, yet they would bus folks from the hood to polling places and tell them who to vote for. Oh well. And there are still court cases dealing with unregistered voters at multiple polling stations, "lost" votes, etc.

If GA wants to have ID required for registering, then they need to issue IDs for no charge.

And why do away with registering by mail? It's working well for other states.
I can only speculate at their complete registering process, but I'm sure they probably require potential voters to register at official voter registration buildings that are only open from 9-5 on weekdays.
Not that any of this matters much because the state is already redrawing county lines to divide large black populations...

What's the difference between that and gerrymandering? same effects, just different criteria.
