    Tell me about Phoenix (Tolleson)AZ

    Hi everyone,

I'm going for an interview early next month for a management position in Tolleson, AZ. If hired, it would involve a relocation to this area.

I'd like to be proactive and get a jist of the area. I'm hoping to get some input from local residents - generally what it's like, what are housing prices like, cost of living, things to do, ect.

I'd be looking at areas around and up to about a 1/2 hour commute. I've searched the web and it looks like as though foreclosures are the norm. I've also searched our forum and have read through a few Phoenix posts - some are more than a couple of years old. I know a lot has changed over the last few years. The web generally gives the glossy, all is rosey look - I'm looking for the inside scoop from people living there.

So, with Tolleson as a work place, where would a good place to call home be? I'm single, (not concerned about schools and such) early 40's, fairly active and outdoorsy, love cars and all things automotive as a hobby.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I used to work out in Tolleson. Very small town. The way the valley is laid out though you go seamlessly from one city to the next.

What I've found is that the further North you go in the valley, the better the area. The closer you get to Scottsdale, the more expensive it is.

There are exceptions, but thats how it is generally speaking.

With all the highways around here, transportation time is minimal.

I live in Tolleson, although we get most of our city services from Phoenix. Its a mix of old housing, new housing and warehouses.

urbancynic is right. The farther north you go the better the area. If you land the job in Tolleson I'd look for housing farther up loop 101, which ends/begins at Tolleson. You can make the trip to the north/northwest side of Phoenix by going up loop 101.

I live in peoria, which is north of tolleson, I would work there but never live there it's too far south, anything that west you want to be north too.

If you join on azbmw.org they'll tell you to live in the east valley; but that is way too far of a drive.

Try to stay east valley if you can. Scottsdale is nice and not tooooo expensive, but not cheap either, but ypu get what you pay for. Lower crime, nicer facilities, parks, ect. Also most of scottsdale is close to the freeways. the down side is douche bags, but very few acually live there, they just fuck it up on the weekends.

usually, the closer you're to Mexico, the more crimes are likely to occur. just FYI.

i live out in surprise atm, nice area, but takes me about 45 mins to get to work/play in the city. trying to locate closer towards the east valley where the night life is (DJ and night owl :) ) but whats been said here is pretty on par, lots of foreclosures, the more north the better etc

i just moved out here about 5 months ago from upstate NY, and am absolutely loving it. Its halloween and was 86 degrees tonight, its fucking snowing in NY hahaha

You must be living in a world of peace all the way up there in London then.

Pretty much all been said, I have never actually been to Tolleson, but I've been through most the rest of Phx. Scottsdale is the high class part of town and generally more north the better, but there are exceptions.

Make sure your car has working AC before summer comes, once summer hits then it's in the 100's by 9am and usually doesn't drop below 90 all night unless something strange happens haha. Luckily Phx does have a pretty efficient freeway system.

Thanks for all the input everyone. My interview is next week, so I'll be out there to check out some of the places first hand.

My next problem is my e30 touring ... how difficult would it be to get it registered in AZ? I'd probably just leave it with Ontario plates, but I'd have to come back to Ontario in March to get it emmission tested to keep the plates current.

Lots of logistical nightmares ... I guess I'll have to actually get the job first before I worry too much.
