it's a dslr. you should join forums like nikonians and photog. on the net. lots of great info.

also open a flickr account (even the free acct. will suffice).

go to stores (samy's etc) and get a feel for each camera they offer in your price range.

i'd recommend a nikon d7000 or d300s if you aren't going full frame.

film is great but its quite expensive. get a dslr instead, its cheaper to play with.
