Inspired by a whole separate playlist I have in my music library, I thought this would make a cool thread. I have an entire playlist of original songs, followed by their covers, and in some cases, I have 3 or more covers of the same song by different bands. Here's one that I just found a new cover of:

the johnny cash version is sooooo much better than the original, imo

Cowboy Junkies took this Velvet Underground song to another level.

There isn't any audio on the web of the original by Sleepy John Estes, but Taj Mahal sang my favorite version of Leavin' Trunk which has been covered hundreds of times.

Peter Laughner wrote this song and died not long after from drugs.

Axl Rose sang this song, then sniffed his own asshole.

I'm a big fan of Jack White and a lot of the bands on his label. He does a lot of covers and almost all of them are great.
