Anybody ever make any house lamps out of taillights?

Just thought of this now. Figured it'd be a nice way to waste a sunday. I'm thinking some e28 taillights would make for a nice lamp in my living room.

Anybody ever do anything like this? Care to share pics?

Sounds awesome. Headlights would work way better though..

    120V to 12V though.. sounds dangerous :p

Headlights would be eaiser, but taillights, with red, white and amber all a-glow would make for some nicer atmostphere. I'm sure it's a fairly simple wiring conversion.

all u need is a 12v converter. We use em all the time at work, you can buy em at radio shack for pretty cheap.

That's what I was thinking. I'd like to find a way to mount them so they sit horizontally as they would on the car. Would look great with an old brass lamppost.

Anyway, this is just a thought for the distant future. I'm not about to go spend $90 on e28 taillights when I can spend $90 on parts for my own e30. But down the line. Just wondering if anyone has any pics.

What other taillights you think would make for nice lamps? Doesn't have to be BMW. I'm thinking some old Volvo tails as well.

The only issue I see is just one light bulb draws somewhere around 2 amps, so you are going to need a high amperage power supply. You could put LED lights in it an drop the current by quite a bit, or retrofit 110v bulbs in the housings somehow.

Ive seen on a forum where somebody used an HID bulb in a house lamp that was bright as hell, not a tail or headlight tho
