If your going to buy a SUV then BUY a SUV Chevy/GMC Tahoe/Yukon or nothing. Yeah yeah Gm Domestic = junk blah blah blah Full size SUVs is one thing GM has gotten VERY VERY RIGHT.
Edit: as far as the acadia goes, you dont get any better fuel economy, and it smaller does not ride quite as well and is nearly as expensive as the Tahoe/yukon in similar trim, and you lose a lot in the way of capability when you drop down into the cross overs from a full size

Yeah 54k for a loaded Tahoe/Yukon is cheap while leaving some options unchecked I think your perception is a little skewed about what cheap is.
I should know I just spent 2 hours at my local dealer today pricing out and considering ordering a New Yukon, for the little woman, or Buying a new Truck for me and giving her my current truck.

Long commute, 1 child and in LA area...why exactly an SUV?
I actually traded in my Trailblazer after we had our second kid for a Subaru Legacy. Way more practical and rarely do we need more room than it has. If more room is required, I have my e39 wagon that does everything the SUV did except for things my Trailblazer never actually did (off-road anything)
