Levent, that sounds pretty awesome. We'll be in touch in the next few months! :) Beside, a pit-stop would be necessary seeing how I'm driving a 21 year old E30 with an M42 on its way to hell

Hell yeah! I've wanted to do this forever. I feel like this will be the last long haul for my M42. (Hopefully it doesn't give up on the way, for the lolz).

but will pay for itself after a few stops at National Parks.
When you stop at rest areas look for a coupon booklet of the surrounding hotels, that will save you some money on hotel stays.
My girlfriend brings the game cards from games like Trivia Pursuit, keeps me awake since I do all the driving (E30 is a stick!)
Ipod is a must for music on the road!
I always "tail-gate" lunch, saves money and when you are hungry you can have "lunch with a view".
Having a cooler full of cool water and soft drinks is a must! (Also cold beer for later)

    Utah:
    -----
Try and drive through Utah, Route 12 is one of the best drives in the country, Bryce Cabyon, Arches National Park, Capitol Reef NP, Canyonlands NP are "must see". There is a decent hotel in Moab, Utah, The Bowen Motel, right on the strip, walking distance to the Moab Brewery. Route 128 north of Moab to Cisco is a great back road, behind Arches NP.

    Colorado:
    ---------
Route 550 between Durango and Ouray is also a great drive.
Colorado National Monument is a good side trip, just outside of Grand Junction. Take I70 through Colorado, Glen Canyon is a great drive, just east of Glenwood Springs. My girlfriend and I have always taken road trips, there is so much great country to see!

We recently took a train ride to pick up another E30, that was also very cool!

More to follow! I am excited for you!
Wow that's some fantastic information. I'm thinking if that's the case, I'd take the midwest route on the way, and maybe go through the south on the way back.

if you dont already have aaa i would recommend it. up to a hundred mile free tow, and they can get you discounts at some hotels/ motels. its a hell of a lot cheaper then a tow truck.

Dude...your car broke down 2 times within a week of you creating the bay area drive thread...
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

I third coming through Colorado. I70 through the mountains is nice. There are tons of other great roads as well.

Sina when do you plan to be in NY? I'm going to miss G-Fest but it may be worth a trip down if a bunch of people wanted to get together, plus it would give me an excuse to spend money at Guten.

Okay so right now I've been gathering the funds, and just got my registration renewed back home now that I passed smog.

A few of my friends have suggested a possible route from SD up to Vancouver/Whistler...
I'm thinking it might be cheaper, but I really do wanna see the East Coast and stop by my grandparents' and relatives' in Tennessee.

Are there any similar coastline drives on the Eastern seaboard comparable to say...Highway 1?
