    Computer problem...

Dell Laptop: Doing a fresh install of XP and set boot order cd-hd etc...after windows loads drivers I select enter for install and it says no hard drives found. If I let it boot hard drive first it loads the old OS like normal...what am I missing here? Thanks for any input

Just to clarify you want to do a fresh install of windows xp and after the install loads drivers its states that no hard drives are found?

Most likely you have a sata controller which the windows xp installer doesn't have drivers for. What you need to do is download the sata drivers and use a program like nLite(http://www.nliteos.com/download.html) to create a custom installer including your sata controller's driver.

If you were able to boot back into the old copy of Windows that was installed, you didn't delete the partition.

But I think toointoxicated's explanation is your problem.
