I've always been very fond of C4 early corvettes, but I wouldn't mind a 6 speed late model either. I think I might pick one up as a daily in the spring time. Little worried about insurance kicking my ass since its overly expensive for my E30 being 18 and all. I'd still keep my E30 but I wouldn't mind having something else I can enjoy everytime my E30 breaks down. Thoughts on the C4?

narrow footwells, ugly seats, but otherwise a decent looking car. i prefer the 80's pre facelift models ( concave rear end). with a manual swap ( almost all are auto) and some tuning they can be made to be fast. and the best part of all its a chevy so parts are relatively cheap and are easily available.

I would save for a C5 personally but that's just me. Insurance may not be as bad as you think. I've heard they can be fairly cheap to insure.91 318is M50 swapped

Almost bought one instead of the E30, typical shoddy American build quality, nothing to write home about in terms of power either, especially for the amount of fuel it takes, you're honestly better off with an LS1 trans am/CamaroYour signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

My 2ed fav Vette next to a 67!
But yeah i'd go after one with a LT1 or LT4 in it. Nothing against the TPI models. But the performance plus gas milage of the LT1 would be better. With 6 speed, they get close to 30mpg (if you keep your foot out of it)

I'm with JasonC and avoid the L98 (tpi) cars. That intake is very restrictive (think m52 but worse) and is somewhat pricey to "correct" plus all the 3 pedal cars were a funky 4+3 spd (basically a 4 special with selectable OD's for the top 3 gears). The later LT1/4 cars with 6spd are a much nicer platform to start with (dealing with the optispark vs a conventional gm distributor or coil packs is probably your main trade off).
Other than that pretty much what the others said applies. The door sills are lotus Elise bad, the interior 80's gm at its worst and the suspension design works but isn't gm's best effort. With all that said if you want a vette that badly I'd look for a C5, interior is worlds better (it still sucks compared to its contemporaries) but you get a much better suspension and chassis design and you get an all aluminium LSx powerplant to start with.Greg 1987 325is (fairly far from stock at this point)

I drive vettes daily (work in GM service) and honestly my favorite out of them all is the late c4. The early cars are absolutely dreadful, the late face lift cars are over a million times better in every single aspect. C5's are nice but they are the civic of sports cars, every time I drive one it feels like a mundane eco box. The c4 always makes me feel like I'm in a sports car.
Cliffs: The late C4 is beyond miles better in every possible way than the early C4.1985 M10b18. 70maybewhpoffury. Over engineered S50b30 murica BBQ swap in progress.

Agreed if you cant swing a C5 a late C4 is going to be your best bet.
I am still really wanting and debating what my next fun car is going to be, and a moded to hell C5 or C6 Zo6 is up there on the that list. Yeah my next fun cars is still a ways off lol.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.
