laptop with built in wi-fi? Try moving the router. Might help to get it closer if you can, or get it up higher.

Wi-fi works through radio waves, so if there are any obstructions between your router and computer that might be an issue. Also how many antennas are on your router makes a difference. If antything you can reset your modem and router by unplugin them

i had almost the exact same problem up at school. I was actually taking an elementary class in computer tech and learned that you might lose cable signal if you have electrical wires or outlets near your ethernet cable (or router if youre wireless)

So you might have a power strip that you plug your router into. If the router is near other electrical lines or the powerstrip itself, move it. I would plug it into it's own outlet near as little other things as possible for the best signal. Also, your laptop might be by a bunch of electrical items. I would also keep the pc far from them as well for best signal.

That little tip also increased my home's signal by a bit as well.

Hi Bud.. I am a Cisco Systems Network Engineer, and as a matter of necessity I know a good bit more about wireless than I ever wanted to know. So, first, wherever you DID place the computer, make sure it has a good line of site to the Access Point. As suggested in a previous post, you can change the location of the Access Point to a higher, more open location. Also, take a look around you at any other type device that may be emitting Radio Frequency - such as microwaves, elevators, etc.. and make note of that for both the computer and the Access Point. If you want to change the location of the access point, you simply need a longer cable between that AP and the cable router. Radio Shack sells them. Also, be mindful if you have cordless phones, that the base station is not located too close to either device (AP or computer) as the cordless phones do generate RF. Second, update the drivers for your Wireless card on your MAC. It'd would be useful for me to know what Access Point you have, and what Wireless NIC card you have on your computer. Even better, what version of software you have running on the AP. I'll be watchinf for you reply later today during the commercials on the NFL playoffs, so - do let me know, and let's see if we can't get this resolved.

Unrelated to original topic but does that new apartment by any chance have room and allows a dog the size of say a small pony? ;D

I need to check back in your other thread and see what has happened. Keeping my fingers crossed for good news :D

comical is always better, because you get to laugh at stupid shit, and the issues are normally better than you previously thought.

buy a new router. Chances are you have an old ass blue wireless one. That piece is so 6 years ago. I went out and bought a dual tower wireless one for 100$. Best buy of the year.

This is what I was going to say. Everytime mine gets slow or acts screwy its the first place I look because it has happened before. Not sure how or why sense my home router is set as the default. I blame these things on my wife for hte most part. :)
