Alright, time to vent.
So I've been at my current job for almost 3 years now (contractor for the local broadband/cable provider). I've been there longer than anyone else on the crew, and my position in the pecking order is solidified. I'm top of the totem pole, and the best installer we have.
So for the last few months, we've been busy as FUCK. I'm talking slammed. 8-10 installs per day, 10-12 hour days, 6 days a week. Making a shitload of money, but no time for anything else. Which includes snowboarding, because I bought a pass this year. Plus, I have a new board and new boots. So for the last 2 months, I've been trying to go on days that are slow enough to have the rest of the crew handle it while I go up and ride.
Well, that hasn't been happening. Right before Christmas, one of the guys took a week and a half off to go hunting, so we all covered that while he was gone. Then right at Christmas, another one of them took a week off to go to California for some family Christmas reunion shit, so I covered his rural wireless internet installs for a week. Then we have another guy that calls in sick pretty much every other week, always on a Monday with some bullshit excuse like food poisoning or some shit.
Then on top of that, the guy who took the week off to go hunting has a father in the hospital for about the last month with all kinds of heart problems. So naturally, every time someone in his family calls to tell him he's doing worse, he dumps the rest of his day off on us to spend the next 1-2 days in the hospital. Which I understand, that's got to be awful. But it's also running the rest of us ragged.
Well, this past weekend, his dad really took a turn for the worse and was airlifted 3 hours away. So he left for Friday and Saturday, leaving us to pick up all of his work, and was supposed to be back today. Over the last week, our local ski resort has gotten EIGHT FEET OF NEW SNOW. Not even kidding. I was told that I would be able to have the day off and go ride today, because it would be slow enough. So come about 8:00 am, when we all get our work and start to head out, he still hasn't show up. No call, no text, nothing. Finally he calls back at 8:30, telling us he's still in the town 3 hours away, and thought he told us he wasn't coming back today. So with all my gear at home ready to go, I get handed a stack of work and told I have to work the whole day, afterall. I've wanted to punch babies in the face all day.
