Help me pick my new daily. EDIT: bigger budget, need suggestions.

So my tahoe is sold, I'm willing to spend around $1500 on my new daily driver. I definitely would like a car and decent gas mileage, a manual is a huge plus. Of course I'd love to get another E30, but as it turns out Kansas isn't exactly full of E30s or at least any for sale.

The 123 coupe is cool but, I dont think they ever imported a gasser. If that one runs a M110 (twin cam, silver rocker cover, deep valley between the cams) Good luck finding parts. A lot of that stuff is going over to the classics division and not only is expensive but you might wait 6 months for something.

Be sure to look at the rear suspension mountings for rust.

123 coupes are baller though. IF you end up with it and the mill gives you trouble, look into doing a M113/722.6 swap from a 01 or so S500.

as for a DD i would go for the 83 300d merc if it's clean, no damage, no rust, and well taken care of. It's a diesel and would probably get you better mileage than some of the other cars there.

I would also look at the volvo because it's a 240...freakin bombproof if well taken care of and not too bad on gas mileage either.

the e46 has too many miles and would probably require plenty of engine work (including the cooling system)

the other merc is cool but not DD material.

the other volvo would be good but will definitly need work at 220k for $850.

the e28 is a runner up but will probably need work and does not get the best gas mileage.

the e30 will surely need work, it's an e30. besides, the timing belt broke and you don't know what the PO did to fix it as far as "head work". it might not be a bad choice if you want to do an m50 swap though.

Im going to check out the E28 tomorrow. I love that 280ce merc, and the guy took a nice chunk off his asking price...Would it really be a bad call for a DD? Its low mileage and looks really clean.

as for the 300d, there is some rust. I contacted to owner, no response yet.

I do like to 240 and for the price she might be the most practical choice unless i can get the e28 for a good price.

but damn, that old benz coupe is so fucking cool!

DONT get a gas powered W123 Benz. Their terribly unreliable. The diesel ones will go forever tho.
