Not out of spite, but curiousity.
Can you point out any bad reviews or places that point out the flaws? I've found nothing but good things.

I was hesitant at first because I've never heard of Hi standard...

    EDIT:
Well shit. A bushmaster is the same price, with a shitty red dot sight, but is plastic and not all metal. (Personally indifferent on the last aspect, I like light)

almost bought that bushy last year at the show, but honestly the fit and finish of the DPMS was superior. I'd shell out a little more cash for a more refined product - thats just me though

          Barf...

As for the Histandard, I always look at resale value of anything. A new company that has no real reputation might not be around in this industry long, when you have a warranty issue you will be shit out of luck.

There is a reason different companies charge more for one's items. Because fit and finish and the warranty that stands behind a product.

Example my LMT had a defect in the barrel. I called them up and they shipped me a new one, NO questions asked. I could have beat the fuck out of it, but they have a policy of no questions.

You get what you pay for. I am just trying to lead you the correct way.

Whats wrong with a mini 30? Mine never jams up, build quality is great and it has enough punch to do anything I want with it.

              You're certainly helping.

But, as it stands. I'm at the top of that rabbit hole staring down it. So many options.

              So many configurations.

              So many starting platforms.

              Sooooo looking expensive.

I'm shooting for the 600-700 mark for basically an AR, Weaver base, 1" Riser (I have no neck), Scope (I can only use red dots shooting left handed. Left eye dominant). But this might as well be a pipe dream. HOPEFULLY this rifle won't be a money sucking hobby/fun gun, but more so a utilitarian gun. Most likely get another barrel, upper, and lower down the line (To shoot my .260 remington ammo too, or maybe .308, or maybe .243 )

And, as I just found out. There's a gun show coming to my town next weekend. How randomly lucky is that.

Win ammo, but have no firearm to use it with.
Gun show one week after ammo comes in.

It's as if the universe is willing me to have something to fire this with.
              So much research to do...

.308 for sure. You should still consider a Ruger 10-22 Target though for some cheap fun.

I agree.. I love my SKS. They are still pretty cheap too. With your budget I would get the mini 14 though. The 10/22 is also a great gun. Many aftermarket parts and accessories and the ammo is cheap. Ruger FTW.

I would save a bit more and go with a Spikes Build. I am also cross dominate. It will just take some time to work that out. But always work with Iron sites. Red dots are accurate but really not that fun.

Everyone that is saying Mini 14, please show me some MOA shooting at 2-300 yards. Not ever going to get that from the Ruger.

If you want to check into some new and good up and coming check out Palmetto State Armory. They are putting together some nice pieces and use FN blanks for their builds. Quality! And the prices are really good in the industry.
