your name explains your predicament. Almost all mechanics I have known will want to impulse buy most of the truck. best remedy don't go on the truck.

It's really easy. Do what I do.

Don't buy on credit, and open your wallet to gander inside. Put's a lot into perspective.

i just dont go on the trucks :)

i used, then i spent two weeks of pay of some really nice blue point ratcheting wrenches and a few small things i got the guy to throw in....

i've seen techs drop serious coin on things just because its the "new" model and it has that one feature you will only ever use ONCE when you are showing it off to everyone.

so yeah, just stay off the truck

Save up and buy quality tools, not Harbor Freight shit
I still have a Sears (not Craftsman) 3/8 drive Metric socket set with ratchet and extensions from 35 years ago, amd my Makita 10mm drill just crapped out after 35 years

Before I left bmw I owed/paid snap-on all in all roughly 15g. That guy fucking owned me. Till this day I cringe every time I see his truck.

buddy at my shop has about 50k in tools, but he only owes about 10 or so.. but its almost worth the small payments every week, for me at leastt because im building credit which i had none of and also in a flat rate shop, you make more off the tools you buy

I've spent over 5000$ in tools since I started about 3.5 years ago. I like to have my own shit. As long as I know I can afford it.

Look at the German race mechanics from the 50's

It's not the arrow, it's the indian. Some special tools for the model of car, but nothing special.

best bet is to come to Germany-- the owner of the dealer pays for my tools!(they stay his though)

I definitely don't get the people who've got 50k in Snap-On tools but I do agree it's important to spend money on the tools you actually NEED. If you take care of them you'll have them forever.
