    A how to question....

How do you remove RTV (black or blue goo) from stuff? I've tried finger nail polish remover... would use paint thinner but I don't have any. I've gotta get this stuff off of some eyelids I've got for my neon. They are carbon fiber so I don't want to damage them. Anyone know of anything?

Easiest way is to scrape it off with a razor blade, at least I've found. Be careful.

Carbon fiber eyelids at that ;) I'll post pics once I get em on and put the srt-4 wheels on it. Yeah yeah yeah.... you'll say its rice.... and I'll say I spent 14g's and got a new car. To each his own.....

As far as the razor blade..... tried that (and a ginsu knife) to no avail..... the stuff is stuck pretty well to the fiber on the back side. Front has the clear epoxy and back is bare. Does goo-gone work onshit like this?

SIlicone will pretty much not come off with any chemical. It's kind of made to be tat way. You might try some acetone though, that might work.

Shit man - buy new headlights. Save yourself the time it's going to take to get all that shit off and still not have it look new.

No no no guys. The lids aren't on the car. they've got some RTV on the back of them that I want to get off before I fit them to the car. I tried smearing some RTV on the lids and fitting them but the old RTV was just too thick to make them look right. So I took them off and RTV will clean fairly easy with simple windex and rubbing alcohol WHEN ITS WET. But now that its dry I can't get anything to cut it. I just can't imagine throwin away carbon fiber ANYTHING. Granted it IS a neon and they ARE eyelids..... but still they are carbon fiber. *LOL*

Right..... And I'll say the same thing about the next guy who spends 60 bux on a short shifter. Ugh..... can anyone help or are they just going to do what I do and be an ass? Its a neon but it'll outrun every 3 cept the m42 and the 2.5 m20 here. The fact remains I bought the car..... I'm not selling it... I'm not throwing away the eyelids.... I just wanted an answer..... did I mention I'm having a bad day? Fuck me sideways.

He is right - just because we don't like the Neon - or CF eyelids - doesn't mean we can't help.

I don't know how to get the RTV off aside from a razor blade, some patience, and a lot of time. That's what I'd do - maybe heat it up first too, heat gun or something. Just some thoughts.

Max, I don't know you already said you used a razor, that would have been my guess. But now I guess not. Good luck.
