Really cool. The one in Spain on the first page, as well as the one near Mt Rainier would be dream places for me. That said, I don't know how practical living in one of those places would actually be. Maybe one of those things that you get used to once you do it for a while. I've never lived anywhere close to being that remote though.
I live about 65% that remote, and if I had the chance, I would go full on. I already drive 30 miles to get to where the big box stores are, why not make it an hour? If you shop smart, you don't need to go to the store everyday, and if you have farm animals and a garden/pantry/root cellar in the winter, you are good to go.
How many people really get to live that life anymore? Not a lot, too scared they wont have 4G service.

I would just learn to hunt/fish and farm as you mentioned. If you learned to make your own bow you'd be set. Would need a place to get gas within some reasonable distance, and satellite for Internet. Could telecommute and of course gotta have my r3v. Throw an sti in the mix for a fun dd.
Very nice. Some day I want to pick up some land super cheap (if it doesn't have water, electricity, on it you can get it for next to nothing) - then drop a couple shipping containers on it, rig up some solar panels, and have a nice little "cabin" for beans.
I have been trying to convince the little woman to move further out from town, we have lots of options out there for that. The issue is she is too accustomed to being 15-20 mins from town. I am Not talking quite as rural as some of those but in many respect very close to it with just power and phone. I can buy off the grid places that are 20 mins form town all day long around me, where I want to be is a solid 45 mins to town and an hour and 15 to the big boxes up on top of one of hills in the eastern portion of the Salish mountains surrounded by the national forest.
Or WAY up the north fork valley n on the east side of the whitefish range and wake up to the sunrise over the northern sections Glacier National Park every day, again solid hour to town and hour and a 1/2 to the big boxes. I am willing to go off grid to live up there, you dont measure time up there in years, you measure it by how many winters you live up there......... again surrounded by NFS and NPS. But she wont let me :(
