    Engagement Rings

Hey R3v, hunting for an engagement ring, dont know what she sees in me, but whatever.

Went to your typical retail jewelers, I feel like they want my kidney and first born.

Not to say that I dont want to drop big coin, but I just wonder where I can get the best bang for my buck.

    Thanks R3v

I wish I could help, but Im way too young for this LOL. But I do know they charge a shitload for a quality ring no matter where you go. You gotta pay to play I guess. Hope you find the one for your bride to be, and congrats man!
    SO MUCH MORE TO DO!!

The guy teaches diamond classes at NYU. His family has been in the family business for decades and has their own shop in the Diamond District in NYC ($$$$$$$$$$$).

To call him a diamond expert would be an understatement. Having said that however his price has always been better then ANY jeweler I've ever contacted. Between my friends and I we've purchase diamonds from $4k-$90k.

Even if you chose not to use him at least give him a call. You wont be disappointed. His diamonds are all GIA certified as well.

            1. Pretty sure I gave him a raaaange.
            2. Saying 90k automatically makes all of his diamonds around that price range?
            3. I drive an e30 your point?

he said his friends & i not meaning he purchased 90k diamonds since he drives an e30 from what your saying matt-b. BUT

he or any1 can drive an e30 & plenty of other cars? or could be his friend who drives a ferrari? who knows lol, not all e30 drivers are cheap... MOST are im sure but not all.

anyways for engagement or any jewelry for that matter...

-NEVER shop at the mall =rape retail / what u pay isnt what its worth.
-jewelry districts like NY/LA downtown areas (i understand ur in Or) from what i know in experience you can haggle alot for great deals but make sure your getting quality diamonds/metals.
-robbinsbros/jared/kay/zales etc. is like buying xxr rims (looks nice & right idea but we all know how cheap it really is)

most family owned business hardly haggle since they hafta make a living as well so id stay away inless they have a SALE but then again jewelers always seem to have a sale hmmm...

& jest ouch on the shift boots. that was harsh lol but he makes pretty great quality boots for the price it looks great better than paying the stealer.

So, what's she going to buy you in return? E30 parts?

                      Engagement rings are stupid.

That's not bad advice. Some people are superstitious about that--thinking if someone else's marriage didn't work out it could pass along with the ring. Some pawn shops, and a few jewelry stores, allow upgrades. Some "pawn shops" are also jewelry stores. So you get a ring and since you bought it there you have the option of upgrading to a higher priced one down the road and your old ring goes in the used side of the shop. So the ring on sale might just be one that was upgraded from and not one from a marriage that didn't work out.

My first marriage we got a ring for $100 bucks. It wasn't a huge diamond. It wasn't really anything at all...until one day we went in to a nice store to have it cleaned and the owner asked if he could examine it. He showed us it was flawless and the clarity was of a kind that he said would be difficult to find at the current time. It wasn't like a 10,000 dollar ring or anything but it was a very nice diamond in his professional opinion. Point is you can really score sometimes.

If you are set on a diamond be prepared to do a *lot* of reading so you know what you are looking at when you finally decide...espeically if you go a craigslist kind of way (which isn't bad, either).

Second time around I won't be buying a diamond, though. If you read up on the whole history of diamonds, even excluding the really horrific conditions under which are mined, it's one of the largest commercial scams ever perpetrated on men and women. I also think that if one puts a lot of thought into a custom ring it says something special...and that's the route I intend to take.

Dunno if any of this has helped. I always communicate my thoughts on these things with my partners. Communication is the lynchpin of a successful marriage (I happen to think that my first marriage of ten years is something to be proud of in current times even though we had to dissolve it so we could continue growing in a healthy way) so start early and start often is my best advice.
Das ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!

                              My point exactly.

Why should you have to buy her a ring but not get anything in return? Engagement doesn't count because she would get that too.
