    Yo' bikers ...

... school me on motorcycle jackets.

I live in the Palm Springs area and have been riding my motorcycle to work each day since I took a new job in late October -- about 20 miles each way on the I-10. Have a great jacket for winter ... it's the big, black, thick-leather, police-type jacket that's gonna be way too hot long before summer arrives. So I need something for the rest of the year, which includes A LOT of 100+ days from May through late September. Would like something much cooler -- probably a semi-breathable fabric -- with shoulder, elbow and back protection (I've seen some jackets advertised as "Level 3" protection).

Any suggestions as far as type, brand, etc.? Also, roughly what should I expect to spend for something well made that will last and offers good protection? Not remotely concerned about making a fashion statement -- we're definitely talking form following function here.

Hahaha ... anything with glitter would work, too. Actually I just work in Palm Springs ... I live in the other end of the valley, thank you. :-)

Vanson full perf leather jacket with armor if you want. Serious piece of kit, expect a season of break-in for the leather and years of awesome after that. Mine is 10+ years old.

A mesh jacket should work perfectly for you, nice breathable.
