Yup. We get shit done. Don't bitch too much, and acctually take care of the equipment. This is why I have all new stuff, and when I want time off I can mostly take all the time I need

R3v is filled with bunch of high school kids. The most "git-r-done" they'd be doing is popping zits off their faces.

I show up on time, stay awake during my shift, and go home on time.

        It's rough.

Wrong. Become irreplaceable and you'll never move up. You may get paid a little more, but you'll stay where you are for sure.

I serve chinese food like its nobodys business!

But seriously, at bike shop I manage every summer I am the king. I work monday-friday 9-6 and at least 4 times every weekend I get called in for 'a quick question' or 'a little help' (both usually take 3 or so hours). Kinda frustrating at times, but I do enjoy that job and its nice to be highly regarded by both owners and other employees to the point where they all look to me for help whenever there is a customer issue, a complex repair, or anything else really needs to get done/resolved.

That is why they pay me more than they ever paid their own kids or any other employee they have had in the past 42 years.

So you think being replaceable is a good idea? lol

I do understand what you are saying, but leverage is what gives you earning power. Training a bunch of people to do your job obviously is what is best for the company, however there is no such thing as loyalty to the employee anymore. People use to stay at companies for 30+ years and get multiple retirement packages. Now your lucky to get a decent health insurance with your job. I would love for it to be the other way and people get rewarded for being loyal and doing whats in the best interest of the company but that is a very naive concept now. I have been leveraged out of a company before that I helped create and I promised myself I would never let it happen again. Meh, starting to ramble. These are some VERY generalized ideas though.

Hate the fact I do, I get called the night before a drop down or a special trip.

I agree completely. My situation is one where I came into a newly created position and did very well. I make my company a shit ton of money, but the company has changed as have my interests. I have expressed my interest in shifting into another facet of the company, but they have very kindly told me that they like me doing what I'm doing and don't want to change that. As a result, I'm looking to get out. It's a fine line between performing well, and doing so well that they want to keep you where you are.

As a side note, organizational behavior is a field that is emerging and gaining some popularity. Research shows how much more performance you get from employees who are treated well, and loyalty plays a huge part in that.
