      Funny, I was a member of that old BMW list. It was great, no BS, and a lot of good help. This was in the days before there was much info on BMWs for service, much less on the internet. There were only about 20-30 people on the list at first, with cars ranging from early 2002's to "new and modern" e30's! I got help trouble-shooting some wiring in my M2 from Jim Conforti himself; he even burned me a custom chip!
