i have cracked an aluminum wheel on a tire machine. i did it using the bead breaker, but i did it on purpose. the wheel already had a large chunk missing from the lip, and we wanted to see if it was possible for the tire machine to break it: it did.

to do it by accident is nearly impossible. maybe a slight ding in the lip, or some severe rash, but not bend it.

you must have been using a freaking beast of a tire machine, we tried at work as well and the most we could get was to fling the wheel into a guys shins :drink:

Never bent a wheel, I have had a worn tire explode while breaking the bead more than once, but...

I worked at the second busiest Discount Tire Co in Washington state for 3 years. Never seen anyone bend a wheel with the equipment, except for straightening steel wheels with the dog bone.

Just going to agree with everyone else here-- I've been doing wheels and tires for 5+ years and have used all sorts of different equipment. I can't think of a way to bend a wheel without going out of your way to do so. With the current machines at BMW I couldn't even leave a mark on the lip if I tried-- the tool head will snap before leaving a mark. Like most new machines I've used, all of the contact points are plastic.

My advice? It's a bottle cap-- Get a heavy plastic mallet and hammer it out. It is easy to lessen bends on those wheels without seeking professional help to make them perfect.

Its one bent bottle cap, bro. Thats like $5 at the junkyard. Or, see if you can use your spare tire in the truck. You weren't on here earlier asking for 31 cents to buy an E-Bay shirt, were you?

True. My old job had one, and if you don't position the tire right when uninstalling the pry bar ends up putting too much pressure on the wheel lip. A good alloy wheel won't bend, but steelies and some euro makes will little bit if you're not careful.
