Help me write my resignation letter...

I'm sure there are some professional people out there who have written a real resignation letter (and not just offered their boss a :finger: ). This is what I got so far. I know these things are suppose to be brief so I think this is sufficient. What do you think?

Do I put anything else? Do I do this like a formal letter with my name and address at the top and the name and address of my boss at Westinghouse?

    Let me know your $0.02.

Can't fucking wait to get outta here... just gotta pass my Title Agent exam and I can start making big-bucks closing for my father-in-law.

make sure you dont burn any bridges. You never know when you need people again in the future.

I would make it formal - address it to your manager and CC it to HR.

      Something like,

      Dear x,

I have enjoyed my time here at Westinghouse. However, I have been presented with another opportunity which I think better suits my interests and it is with regret that I must inform you that I am resigning my position. I want to thank the company for the opportunities . . . yada yada yada.

You might even throw in something about how you enjoyed working with/for certain people.

i like dave's angle, be nice, but don't kiss ass too much. some companies i've worked for have a "re-hire" clause, where they'll let you back at your old job/pay level within 6 months if your new gig doesn't work out. never burn bridges, always network, and think about your next corporate takeover, then world domination...

I wouldn't start a business letter with "Dear". Here's my stab:

[name of whomever you are addressing memo/e-mail to]:

I submit here my formal resignation from [company x] which will take effect [last day of employment]. Thank you for the opportunity and experience to work with you these past [amount of time you worked there]. Should you need to contact me after my end date for any reason, I can be reached at:

                [Home address and phone number]

                Sincerely,

                ===========================================

Whether or not HR flags you as re-hireable or not is a decision that will already been made by the time you submit your letter of resignation. Unless your letter has something really stupid in it, it will have no bearing on whether or not you are considered re-hireable. The purpose of the physical letter is so that HR can put it into your personnel file. It would only come into play in the event you tried to file a Wrongful Termination lawsuit or an Unemployment Insurance claim. You cannot do either of these things if you resign. The letter would be the company's way of proving you resigned and weren't fired.

Oh, and you should resign verbally to your immediate supervisor in person first. Don't just hand in a resignation letter.

I was going to resign verbally to my boss and give him my letter. I seriously have like 6+ supervisors/bosses, but this one boss I picked is the head of the group so I think he is the right one to give my resignation too.

I like your draft Jon... thanks!
