Who's had pneumonia?

Finally went to the doctors last week.
I was sick off my ass for a week prior, and I never ever get really sick. If I catch a cold or flu I generally can shake it off in days.

This pneumonia business had me as weak as a kitten, needing naps and a heavy run of two types of antibiotics.

Said it might be weeks before I really get completely outta the woods and feel 100% normal again.

Trouble is, I'm headed to the Caribbean in 2 weeks and obviously want to have some fun.

I'm currently feeling 60% better, and almost finish my antibiotics.

So my question to r3v is... Have you had pneumonia and how long did you get back on your feet? I just pray I'll be good for down south vaca and not dragging this piss off disease along with me.

Had it, worst thing ever, take the doctors forever to figure out what it was because I didn't cough at all. Xray showed that my left lung was full, and it was pressing against my heart, causing massive amounts of pain. Couldn't move without it hurting. I had a few other illnesses on top of it too.
Was no fun, and sometimes when its cold I still get the pains, but I am happy to have made it through pretty damn well.
All in all, its no fun.

I had it. It wasn't too bad. I thought it be alot worst because my uncle died from it, but he was very old. Can't remember how long I was down for. I know I went to work at least one of the days. I was just always exhausted.

I had it when I was 10 or so. Shit sucked. Cold sweats sucked. I couldn't grasped the concept of being freezing yet sweating. Worse part of it all was I got it 2 days before spring break vacation and it didn't go away until after it ended.

I had it in boot camp. One lung almost full the other just starting. Forced myself to pass the test they had for me to not get dropped back a cycle and graduated on time. Adios Parris Island.

Had it as a kid, recovered quickly as most younger people tend to do but when I cam down with Meningitis a few years later it nearly killed me.

The sun and salt will do you good but stay away from the booze and late hours of partying. Montezuma's revenge when I think of water in most under developed places. Resorts nah they are smart they filter the water.

I had it when I was about 12. I was out of school for a month and a half. I ended up in hospital. :D

BTW a month and half without going outside is torture.

I've also had it when I was about 11. I was in the hospital bed for 3 weeks.
Since then, whenever I don't eat antibiotics after getting a cold, it would become a horrible cough for weeks and months.

2 years ago my cough was so bad and it lasted for 3 months. During that time I finished up 2 bottles of buckley, 1 bottle of walnut oil, and number of different antibiotics/cough/cold medicine.. I was literally coughing and throwing up at the same time.

I had pnuemonia for the first time in Feb. Same as you. Sick, sweating like a pig, couldn't sleep enough, no appetite, got better for a couple days, then it came back again. Thought it was just the flu. But when I started coughing up bloody phlem, off to the doc I went. Took an x-ray and listened to my chest and confirmed what I was starting to suspect. Said a had a pretty good case, not just garden variety walking pnumonia. Got prescribed Levaquin, similar to Cipro. I felt better in 5 days, and pretty much feeling good in a week. But had the "black box" warning reaction to the antibiotic. Developed intense shoulder tendinitis that lasted for nearly 5 weeks. Played some easy tennis a week after finishing the drug, then two days later could not move my arm. Though something ruptured in there it was so painful. Finally saw a shoulder doc and said tendonitis, and would get better on its own, still a litte sore if I over do it. So watch those reactions and be careful with your tendons if you've taken cipro/ levaquin!

You should be feeling much better in just a few days. Hope you recover well.
p.s. my ex-wife died of pnumonia when she was 35. went into a blood infection and she died in the hospital a day after being admitted. Nothing to treat lightly.

I caught that 3 times so far. Surprisingly i wouldnt consider it to be as bad as everyone claims it to be. Maybe my cases were not as bad as others, but it still kind of sucked. It pretty much just felt like a really bad flu. The worst of it was the body aces and the constant feeling of being frozen cold. And the cough...forget it.
But i would have to say, for me, it lasted a couple weeks. If i remember correctly, I was pretty good about drinking plenty of fluids and of course the strong medication my doctor gave me helped the cough and counteract the symptoms.
Just make sure you stay hydrated. It seriously helps out. And sleep as much as you can.
